Thread Count
What does TC in sheets mean?
TC or ‘Thread count’ refers to the number of threads (strands of fabric) per square inch of fabric. This is calculated by counting the number of horizontal threads and the number of vertical threads which make up the weave of the fabric.
A 300 thread count sheet has 150 vertical single-ply threads and 150 horizontal single-ply threads woven together.
In general, a sheet with a higher thread count will be more durable and feel softer. However; it is ideal not to use only thread count to determine the quality of your bedsheet as not all manufacturers calculate their thread count the same way.
Generally; thread count of 200 is a good standard, a count of 300 will be noticeably softer, but you won't be able to feel the difference above 600 threads per inch. Besides; higher thread count sheets tend to be less durable and might lead to restless sleeping as it restricts the airflow around your body.
Cotton sheets used in hotels normally have a thread count between 250 to 600.
Hotels usually prefer sheets with a high thread count because they are softer, more breathable, and more resistant to pilling.
