What is Crochet?
Crochet dates back to the old French word croche which means hook. It is the process where you use yarn or thread and a hook to make fabric, garments, hats, bags, jewelry and clothing. Crochet uses a single hook to hook the loops together directly on the piece, without a foundation material to make a texture of looped and interlinked thread chains.
Crochet vs Knitting:
Both are methods of stitching yarn together, just in different styles. Knitting creates loops by passing a group of loops from one needle to the next, keeping the stitches in place. Crocheting is faster than knitting because it tends to use more yarn per stitch, which means that crochet is bulkier than knitting.
Studies have shown that those who knit or crochet have a decreased chance of age-related cognitive impairment or memory loss among older people. It suggests that crafts like this help the brain create and maintain the neural pathways that keep the mind and memory sharp. Crochet is an excellent way to ease anxiety, it's a stress buster and it keeps your mind active.
